APDT Member Since 2021 Let Them Sniff My name is Rebekah and my passion is for all animals, especially canines. I am 28 years old and have been training dogs professionally for 7 years. I have had any pet you can think of and have trained parrots as well as dogs. I use positive reinforcement training and follow LIMA standards when working with my students. I am an evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test, AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Test, AKC Community Canine, and Urban CGC. Certifications: Designations: Owner/Trainer Job Title: Owner/Trainer Training Equipment: Easy Walkers, Gentle Leaders, flat buckle collars, martingale collars, 6 foot leads, 20 foot long leads (for recall + distance) Training Philosophy: I believe positive reinforcement should be used first when training animals. I believe dogs are allowed to make their own decisions within reason and have likes and dislikes. I believe you shouldn’t squash your dogs instincts and should nurture them. Locations Served: Plymouth and surrounding towns. Email me for details. I am 28 years old and I started training animals professionally 7 years ago for a corporation. I had an incredible mentor that exceeded the company’s standards by far and taught me that there is strength in gentleness and the more force a trainer needs usually the less skill they have. Training animals is all about creativity and thinking outside of the norm. You need to be quick to react and easily adapt to the needs of an ever changing environment, especially when in the public with an animal. I am able to assess a dogs’ state quickly and can respond appropriately with either positive reinforcement of desired behaviors, behavior substitution/redirection, or whatever the situation at hand requires. It is important to think of the animal’s wants and needs biologically and personally. No two are the same. The many dogs with varying temperaments and levels of motivation I have worked with over the years have taught me sometimes training is not always so straight forward. Sometimes there needs to be a little creativity to inspire the behaviors you’re looking for in your dogs. They might just need to be taught a different way that suits THEIR OWN personal needs, rather than immediately responding with negativity. The bond and trust you share with your dog is important; getting behaviors you want from them willingly has been proven to be more effective than when they are forced to comply with pain or fear. |
