For as long as I can remember, I always had a love for dogs. Growing up, I have always had a dog and I was able to teach them the basic behaviors of sitting, down and staying. As a disabled Marine Corps Veteran, suffering with PTSD and physical disabilities, my wife and I started to research Service Dogs. We were blessed to find my Service Dog, Henney, a beautiful Year- and one-half old Shepherd mix at one of the local shelters. She had received her basic training, but we saw more in her. We realized she needed to learn more than just sit, so my wife and I started to research the requirements for training Service Dogs. We were able to learn how to train her for my needs and eventually have her earn her AKC, CGC, CGC-A, and CGC-U certifications. During this time, we not only made some great connections but also learned a lot more different training techniques to help us better train Henny. This led us to get our AKC Evaluator Certifications to help others with their dog training needs.
