Trainer Profile

Ruff Around the Edges LLC

I am a private trainer specializing in behavioral issues, like reactivity, as well as basic and intermediate levels of obedience.

Certifications:

Job Title: Private Dog Trainer

Training Equipment: Clickers, treats, leashes, quick release or flat buckle collars, and harnesses. I do not allow the use of electronic collars, chain/choke collars, prong collars, or flexible leashes.

Training Philosophy: I am a force free trainer, meaning I rely on psychology and science to work with dogs and target behavioral problems without using fear or pain. I believe in building a relationship with each dog in order to make the work both fun and effective.

Locations Served: Hartford County (CT)

When I started my career, I began as head doggy daycamp counselor at a pet care facility for three and a half years. My camper’s parents often told me that I was their dog's favorite person, and I know your pet will be no different! Daycamp gave me an incredibly unique, hands-on perspective where I got to observe and learn about behavior, body language, and communication (both from dog to dog and human to dog) in a way that I cannot imagine learning anywhere else. While working there I nurtured my passion and love for animals and built it into a skill set. Nowadays, I have been privately pet sitting and dog walking since 2014, and I am also a trained grooming technician and began focusing on my true passion and became a professional dog trainer as of January 2016. I have taught classes of all levels including puppy, basic to advanced obedience, as well as AKC Canine Good Citizen test prep. Now I focus exclusively on private, in-home training with the dream of opening a facility of my own someday.
