Laura brings years of training experience and her love of dogs, combined with more than 33 years experience in the field of education to K9 University. She is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), an AKC Approved Canine Good Citizen (CGC, CGCA, CGCU), Tricks and Temperament Evaluator, a Professional Member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), a member of the Association of Animal-Assisted Intervention Professionals (AAAIP), and Pet Tech First Aid and CPR certified. Laura has been training her personal family dogs for many years, but started working formally as a dog trainer in 2011. She currently conducts in-home and private training sessions as well as group classes. Her experience includes serving as a volunteer trainer for a variety of foster/shelter dogs (P.A.W.S., Grahamville, ABMR); training puppy, beginner, intermediate, advanced, agility, and rally classes; assisting with and conducting CGC, CGCA, and TDI testing; working in dog daycare and kennel programs; walking foster/shelter dogs; conducting home visits for rescue organizations; and transporting dogs for Echo Dogs White German Shepherd Rescue. Laura provides an activity-based training program for the shelter dogs from P.A.W.S. Tinley Park and is also a trainer for Operation Patriot Paws, a non-profit organization that matches emotional support dogs with veterans. In her free time, Laura enjoys spending time training her dogs, taking them out in the community and going on long nature walks. The Anderson pack has participated in different levels of obedience, agility, rally, obstacle course, and nose work training and therapy work. Laura’s current pack include three German Shepherd Dogs — Bane (CGC, CGCA, CGCU, ATT, TDI), Bravo (CGC, CGCU, CGCA, and TDI) and Baz (CGC, TKN). Her dogs that have passed the rainbow bridge include a 12 year old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd Dog rescued from South Suburban Humane Society named Bear (CGC, CGCA, and TDI), a 12 year old German Shepherd Dog rescued from Echo Dogs White Shepherd Rescue named Bella (CGC, CGCA, and TDI), and an 8 year old White German Shepherd Dog rescued from a backyard breeder situation named Bodhi (CGC, CGCA, CGCU, TDI, Agility ACT1/ACT2 and Novice Trick Titles).
