Big Sky Dog Training goes beyond the mechanics of obedience commands. We strive to provide a safe, effective, high-quality reward-based training program. Our program helps owners develop the optimum relationship with their dog. This relationship allows the dog to see the owner as a safe, strong, dependable, fair and consistent leader your dog wants to obey. Our technique is one of rewarding the dog for behaviors that are well done. We do not teach compulsion training. We use five rewards; treats, touch, voice, loose leash and play. We want the dog to come when called because they want to. We want your dog to wait at the door until you tell him it is OK to leave the house. We want to create a fun and save environment for you, your family and your dog(s). We offer private lessons and group training classes. Every dog is trained according to the needs of the owner and the dog. Private lesson are initially held at the owners home. We then decide what adventures are needed to help the dog become a good citizen in and out of their home. Group classes are held at 2 locations, one in Skokie, IL and one in Deerfield, IL and are considered extremely helpful for all dogs in developing their attention and focus amongst distractions as well as learning how to socialize around other dogs and people. Board and train is offered for clients that need to leave town for a short period and would like some one-on-one help with some problem behaviors or to brush up on certain aspects of training. We also offer AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification and AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program Certification. We provide temperament, behavior and adaptability screening pre and post purchase. We provide programs for children, seniors and people with disabilities. All students receive a training manual with several articles to help them maintain a safe and healthy companion or sport dog.
