Trainer Profile

Pieces of the Universe

I have been a professional dog trainer since 1999. In my work with dogs, I have specialized in service dog training, specifically diabetic alert dogs. Pet and remedial training available as well.

Certifications:

Designations: CPDT-KA

Training Equipment: I use clickers and lots of treats to help maintain that positive, calm approach. You will never find chain, prong or shock collars in my gear bags.

Training Philosophy: In my work with dogs, I have specialized in creating a bond with a calm approach to dog training. Through Positive reinforcement, we can successfully train and maintain a solid bond with our dogs.

Holding a Masters in Education and an Undergraduate Degree from Oregon State University, in Animal Sciences, I hold the titles, MEd, CPDT, AKC CGC Evaluator, and am balanced in education as I approach dog training from a science approach, understanding how the dog actually works. Since 1999, I have been adapting and evolving my training approach as I learn more and more about the brain development in the dog. Through this understanding, I work with the dog in a way that works for him. Each dog is different and, as Suzanne Clothier says, "there is no formula in dog training". My work has been focused on the Diabetic Alert Service Dog as well as other service dogs. I also teach pet dog classes, including puppy socials, puppy kindergarten and fun games to keep the dog excited and happy. My personal education is never complete as I attend various continuing education seminars and clinics. This fresh approach keeps me sharp with recent discoveries in the science behind the training.
