I offer in home instruction for basic skills, manners and behavior modification for problem behaviors. Virtual instruction is also offered for clients outside of South Dakota.

Training Equipment: The equipment can vary based on to the behavior of the dog & the needs of the owner. I routinely use buckle collars, harnesses, no-pull harnesses & leather/cotton training leads. NO CHOKE, PRONG or SHOCK Collars!

 

Training Philosophy: I believe that training should promote a positive bond between the owner and dog. I believe in teaching dogs the manners needed to live a healthy, happy life! I strongly believe in a modern, science based approach to training!

 

Locations Served: Private in home instruction in the Lead, Deadwood, and Spearfish South Dakota area. Virtual sessions are available for clients outside my immediate service area.

I believe that communication between the dog and the owner is one of the most important tools when training. Dogs need consistent signals from their owners and too often, today's dog owner spends little or no time actually working with their dog. There are no quick fixes for molding a well behaved dog. You must teach them what you want them to do or they will learn to do things their way quite quickly. Our training methods are based on teaching the owner to be an effective leader, without force or intimidation, setting the dog up for success, and rewarding good behavior from the dog. For private lessons, I tailor each individual lesson plan to the needs of the dog and owner, demonstrate techniques and then teach the owner how to do them properly. Written homework is given following each lesson. Those clients who are willing to do their homework have the best results! The emotional state of the dog, and underlying causes for behavior are always taken into account. Owners must learn to read their dog's body language in order to help modify behavior. I am a professional member of the Pet Professional Guild and a supporting member of The International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.
