I have owned and loved dogs my entire life. I have worked with dogs in many capacities over my lifetime including family pets, volunteer work at SPCA, Golden Retirever rescue, Pets for Vets Trainer, Paw Pals Therapy Dogs, Obedience Trials, Conformation Showing, Service Dog Training and more. I have taught Special Education in public schools for more than 20 years and upon retirement, decided to blend my love of dogs with my students and their families. Listening to families speak of the amazing relationships their family dogs had with my students, I decided to help them further train their dog to better assist their child. Teaching social skills and Canine Good Citizen and CLASS skills to a family dog, the dog could then further assist the child and family on outings. This can easily lead to owner certification of a family dog with Assistance/Service/Emotional Support status. My experiences in hospitals and facilities with family members led me to Therapy Dog work and Training. This is a huge passion for me and one that gives to all involved: the dog, the handler and the person in need of TLC. Helping owners train their dogs to work as therapy dog teams is a beautiful. Over the years i have been involved with hospitals, nursing homes, Ronald McDonald House and Hospice. A dog can become a good dog and a good dog can become a great dog. I believe this to be true for handlers as well. Lots of great things happen when a dog and an owner bond and work together to make the world a better place.
