Debbie has been training dogs and their humans for over 10 years in the Chicago Area. She has received the distinction CTC (Certificate in Training and Counseling) with honors from the internationally known SF SPCA's Dog Training Academy. She teaches a variety of group classes as well as private lessons. The APDT's Board of Directors has chosen a very limited list of certifications to designate their "professional" category. As you are your dog's advocate, it's important to research trainers carefully. A certification can entail just a basic multiple choice test (CPDT for example). It does not ensure that the trainer has the skills or experience to help you train your dog. Membership in APDT is open to anyone who pays dues. It does not ensure that the trainer obides by the APDT's mission and ethics statements. Good, ethical trainers will be upfront about what methods they will use, and will happily answer any questions you have about the training in advance.
